The medicinal marijuana industry continues to grow in South Florida, with more dispensaries opening and more patients signing up to buy products. Before you’re given any consideration for a card, you need to bring or upload medical records from within the last year that documents certain medical conditions. The Florida Department of Health lists the following as qualifying conditions:
- Cancer
- Epilepsy
- Glaucoma
- HIV
- AIDS
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
- Crohn’s disease
- Parkinson’s disease
- Multiple sclerosis (MS)
- Medical conditions of the same kind or class as or comparable to those above
- A terminal condition diagnosed by a physician other than the qualified physician issuing the physician certification
You have to make an appointment to see a doctor, who will evaluate you and review your treatment options and document all requirements under Florida law. Afterward, a patient and/or caregiver must submit a completed application to the Office of Medical Marijuana with a passport photo, a copy of State ID/proof of residency, and the required fee (currently$75).
